A Proper Introduction

Hi I’m Anna! I’d like to start off by saying thank you for being curious and checking out my page, for wanting to make a change in your health, for searching, and for taking the time to find me here 🙂 Welcome!

So to start off i’d like to give a shout out to our photographer Alla with Inadreamphotography. She has always done a fabulous job on our family shoots, and I would recommend her in a heart beat!

I’d like to introduce myself a bit…I’m a mom of 3 awesome kids (above) ages 7, 5, and 3, married to my high school sweetheart, currently working part time as a clinical nurse specialist in functional medicine certified in nutritional pain management, and have a passion for health and wellness in its raw form.

I’ve had my own health challenges over the years that have been trying and difficult, and I am happy to say that I am overcoming these things everyday with good nutrition, knowledge, supplements, exercise and a new perspective! I want to share that with the world…

My Roots

I’d like to start by sharing a little background about myself…I was born in Ukraine and immigrated to the states at a young age, don’t remember a lick of it actually, I was three. Life was good growing up.

My parents raised us well and taught us to work hard and to be frugal. We didn’t have much more than a few massive leather suitcases when we arrived on US soil.

I’m the pouty one on the bottom right 🙂 I just love this photo, it was taken within the first few weeks of coming to America.

I can’t imagine how terrifying that must have been for them, to bring five small kids under the age of 7 to a country they didn’t know, to a language that was foreign, to no family or friends for support, and into the home of sponsors who were complete strangers to us.

By God’s grace, we adjusted well and had a good childhood thanks to our hard working parents.

And The Nightmare Begins…

A few months after my 17th birthday, I started having serious problems with my stomach, I was bleeding, cramping, nauseated, in pain, I was sure that I was dying! Come to find out I had developed ulcerative colitis which was progressively getting worse and worse over the years.

I started treatment which was not very successful, and I couldn’t stand the fact that I was 20 years old and on chronic medication. There had to be another way!

I tried steroids, anti-inflammatories, topicals, everything but immuno-suppressants. My body was not responding well. From my first GI office visit, I was told right from the start “you can’t do anything about this…you will deal with this for the rest of your life…it will likely get worse with time…there is NOTHING you can do to make this better”

At one point we even talked about the possibility of a colostomy in the future (removing the colon)  SAY WHAT? Not exactly words of encouragement for a 20 year old newly married nursing student…

A Light at the End of the Tunnel

It wasn’t until I had my second baby that I had tried cutting out gluten and dairy in hopes that his tummy would settle down. Well it did, but that’s not all…I WAS BETTER, in fact I was A LOT BETTER.

Being naturally curious and always “figuring out a solution” to every problem (ask my sisters haha!) I began to delve deeper and deeper into this mysterious, never before thought about, never before imagined notion that maybe I COULD get better, maybe I COULD live without being on medication for the rest of my life and maybe, just maybe I COULD have a hope for wellness again.

Its been a roller coaster with good and bad days but I’ve learned so much along the way! From Leaky Gut Syndrome, FODMAPS, SCD (specific carbohydrate diet), ketogenic, elimination diets and fitness to the important role of hormones in health.

I basically had to change everything, my entire lifestyle. The best part? understanding why all of those things were SO vitally important to finally getting better!

Here’s Where I Get Serious About This

I graduated with a Masters in Advanced Practice Nursing and work as a Clinical Nurse Specialist with a specialty focus in nutritional pain management, functional medicine, and restorative care. The more I learn, the more I want to share.

This has truly been LIFE CHANGING for me. My heart is overwhelmed the most when a patient comes back to me and tells me that they feel better! They have less pain (yasss!) they are more functional, and most importantly, have renewed hope for finally getting better.

People are hungry for wellness and constantly looking for ways to better themselves. Face it, we all want to feel cleaner, be sharper, live longer, have more energy, take life by the horns and be happy.

My heart’s desire is to share what I’ve learned on this long, painful and hopeless journey of healing.

Yours Truly,

  1. Thanks for starting a blog on this life style. Also inspiring to see Ukrainian , educated and working mommas. I’m wanting to do something crazy and go for a mostly male dominated field as an air balance technician. 5 years of school with 2 boys under 4….?? Only with God’s help.

    1. thanks for stopping by! Glad I could inspire you 🙂 and yes with God ANYTHING is possible 🙂
